We are:  a family-owned one-hundred-plus person residential design-build firm in Seattle. For over thirty years we have specialized in high quality custom remodels and new homes. We perform real Design-Build daily and our Architects/Designers frequently interface directly with Lead Carpenters, Project Managers, and our own in-house cabinet shop to create beautiful work.

We seek: Applicant must be proficient in Autocad. This position will work under and collaborate with our Project Architects and Creative Directors. In addition, the applicant will interface directly with interior designers, carpenters, and cabinetmakers. Ability to project hours and hit target dates is a must. We work almost exclusively for homeowners and we hit our deadlines.

We Offer: This is a full-time position with PTO accrual immediately and health/dental/rx plan/vision/long term disability and 401k after sixty days. We pay hourly and respect the forty-hour week – all hours over forty result in overtime pay. Wage range $25-$50 depending on experience.

Position Overview: The Interior Design Studio Assistant role is a support role that primarily serves the Interior Design department through sample management, specification work, light check in and deliveries, and other general tasks. The direct function of this role is to alleviate pressures off Interior Designers to allow more time in their own primary tasks and functions. This role is meant to be developed, expanded, and re-defined based not only on the skills and strengths of the incumbent, but also by the needs of JAS

This is a full-time position with PTO accruing immediately, and full health/dental/rx plan/vision/long-term disability, and 401(k) after sixty days. We pay hourly and respect the forty hour week – all hours over forty result in overtime pay. Wage range is $20-$30/hour and will be commensurate with experience.

Duties/Expectations: Ideal applicant will have 2-4 years of design education and have worked in a fast-paced professional environment. Applicant should be proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office and have knowledge/experience sourcing interiors furnishings, interior finishes, and lighting. Applicant will maintain, manage and organize all inventory. In addition, applicant will exhibit a can-do attitude, the ability to multi-task, problem solve, and time manage while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail. Stand-out applicants will be willing to take initiative and see tasks through to the end, communicating and collaborating across all teams. The person in this position will need to move about the office and warehouse as well as make deliveries to job sites. The role includes sorting and organizing packages and items weighing up to 50lbs as needed. Assistance is readily available for heavier items. This position will work directly to assist the interior design team on both architectural interiors and interior furnishings projects. You will have a unique opportunity to serve as a liaison between both our carpenters and designers.

Travel: Frequent local travel. This role requires the design assistant to visit many job sites as well as showrooms throughout the week, sometimes on a daily basis. The design assistant must be comfortable driving and parking in Seattle. The job also requires travel to job sites further away, such as San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island, Kirkland, Redmond, and Bellevue on occasion. These days may require longer work hours to accommodate travel time.

Responsibilities: This position will report to a Superintendent. The candidate will work independently, as well as with jobsite leads and journeyman and possibly an apprentice. There will be client interaction as well.  Strong communication skills are a must. Our ideal applicant is a creative problem solver with really good hands.  Someone who appreciates a good challenge and is an expert in their field.

We are looking for candidates who have many of the skills below:

Framing:
 – Strong residential/remodel framing skills
– Adapt the new framing to an old out of square/level house
– Frame a new 2nd story
– Ability to understand and incorporate framing strategies that considers future interior trim and cabinetry, as well as plumbing/mechanical/electrical installs.
– Ability to read structural and architectural drawings and to lead, teach and motivate a crew of lesser experienced carpenters
– Proficiency at stick framed and trussed roofs (including incorporating steel beams, moment frames, etc.) and stair framing

We are seeking a Driver to provide support to all JAS carpenters by transporting materials to and from job sites. This is a very physically demanding position, one that requires heavy lifting throughout the day. We put a strong emphasis on safe lifting and materials handling techniques.

We Seek: A safe and courteous driver with a good driving record and valid driver’s license. A plus if you have some experience driving a truck or carpentry. We are also looking for an individual with good communication skills and can be professional at all times. Our ideal applicant can be flexible with their daily tasks as each day will not be like the last. Some tasks include:  loading construction debris and taking it to the appropriate transfer station;  load, deliver and unload cabinet packages, pick up materials at a vendor site and deliver them to a job site; deliver and return tools/materials from job sites; general maintenance of the dump truck and other fleet vehicles; help setup and break down job sites.  Also, this job occasionally includes some basic carpentry tasks.
